I'm still "Duh--longing" for a good heater from a company that cares!!! Jun 05, 2009 I figured with the overall positive reviews, that DeLousy had simply addressed the obviously important/pertinent concerns raised by sub-par reviews. Oops....was very presumptious of me. Mine just arrived last week, and the actually packaging box was inside TWO other boxes....because even with rolls of packaging tape, the original box could barely hide the product from view. The base-unit wheels had GRASS on them (so apparently a used product was sent to me (probably more attributable to a carefree distributor). Then, I got to enjoy the "sticker-issue"....which took 45 minutes with "gentle adhesive remover," but which still removed the paint from this area of the unit. I tried it for 3 days.......the "sparking issue" is a DEFINATE FIRE HAZARD if used on a carpeted surface (there are what look like cigarette or match-stick burns in the carpet at my office now.
So, if anyone wants a re-re-used DuhLonghi Mica HHP1500, there is currently one on "re-sale" at my local Salvation Army Store.....and yes, I warned them about the product, and they said they would have their supervisor consider whether to sell-it with a warning...or just trash it. Nice Product....and after hearing the reviews about customer service...it wasn't worth my time, energy or anticipated disgust/frustration even calling these dingle-berries.
Great design, but bad value May 01, 2009 The design, portability and heat output of this product is first rate. However, the heating element burned out in both units that I ordered over the past six-months. Never ran the radiator for longer than two-hours at a time and never at a setting higher than medium.

Flamed out after five months Apr 07, 2009 My review title says it all, really. I bought this heater because it was a Consumer Reports top pick. And I loved it -- effective, quiet, easy to use -- until it flamed out five months after I bought it. Quite literally. This was after using it for probably six hours a day (except weekends) during those five months. One day I noticed my cat staring at it; curious, I looked, too, and suddenly a bright orange spot the size of a nickel appeared near where the power cord entered the unit, and there was a burning smell. I quickly turned it off and unplugged it. There was a scorch mark where the flareup had been. After letting it cool, I plugged it back in and tried to turn it on, but it was (and is) permanently dead.
Needless to say I am disappointed with the short lifespan of this product, and am feeling rather lucky that I happened to be close by, and able to unplug it quickly, when it decided to have its fatal meltdown. Who know what damage it might have caused if I'd been out of the room.

It's true. It shoots sparks. Apr 01, 2009 I loved this heater. It's a great looking design and blends well with modern surroundings. It worked fine for the first winter, then stored it in the original box for the summer. We got about 4 months out of it this year, it's second winter. It worked pretty well heating a large open room, comfortable anyway. During it's decline, it increased the popping noises during heating and eventually created a glowing lava-like hole about 1 1/2" in diameter. I thought I saw sparks from that spot -- probably should have retired it at that point. It was confirmed a few days later when my husband and I both wheeled around and caught it shooting sparks about two feet from the unit. We also have a DeLonghi oil-filled radiator, purchased at the same time, it's currently operational. Another reviewer made a comment about how the oil-filled radiators retain their heat after you turn them off, which is a great point for energy savings.
I'm very research-intensive with everything I purchase. I look for well designed functional products. I've noticed recently that even well respected brands and products rarely reach above average reviews. It's disturbing that electronics seem to have a 1-4 year lifespan without options for affordable service or parts. We better get really good at recycling or put more thought into modular designed products with upgradable parts.
Simple, easy to use, works great Mar 23, 2009 We bought this product to heat a playroom over our garage. It is a fairly large room (25' x 15') with a 12' ceiling. This heater does a bang up job warming it up. Simple controls, very safe.
